Jerash is a true gem of Roman architecture and a testament to Jordan’s rich historical legacy.

Day 4: Amman -Mount Nebo - Madaba - Kerak Crusader Castle - Little Petra - Petra (Distance: 320 km)

On your fourth day in Jordan, embark on a journey through history, spirituality, and architectural marvels as we travel from Amman to the legendary city of Petra. Along the way, we’ll explore the mosaic-filled city of Madaba, the sacred Mount Nebo, the imposing Kerak Crusader Castle, and the charming Little Petra.

Our first stop is Madaba, known as the “City of Mosaics,” located west of the Dead Sea along the historic Kings Highway. This charming town is home to the famous 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land, beautifully preserved on the floor of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. Madaba’s rich history and vibrant mosaics make it a must-visit destination for travelers exploring Jordan.

Next, we’ll visit Mount Nebo, just 10 kilometers west of Madaba. This sacred site is believed to be the place where Moses glimpsed the Promised Land before his passing. From the summit, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and even the rooftops of Jerusalem on a clear day. Mount Nebo is a place of profound spiritual significance and a highlight of any trip to Jordan.

Continuing south along the Kings Highway, we’ll arrive at the Kerak Crusader Castle, a massive fortress that stands as a testament to the region’s medieval history. Built in the 12th century, this imposing structure features underground galleries, secret passageways, and thick defensive walls that once protected Crusader soldiers. Explore the castle’s fascinating history and imagine the battles that took place within its walls over 100 years ago.

Before reaching Petra, we’ll make a stop at Little Petra (Siq Al-Barid), a smaller but equally fascinating archaeological site that served as a caravan stop for traders traveling to Petra. Its narrow canyons and rock-cut structures offer a glimpse into the Nabatean way of life.

Finally, we’ll arrive in Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and Jordan’s most iconic destination. Your overnight stay in Petra will prepare you for an unforgettable adventure into this ancient Nabatean city.

Walk through the narrow Siq, a dramatic canyon pathway, and be awestruck by the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh), Petra’s most famous monument. Continue exploring to discover the Royal Tombs, the Roman Theater, and the Monastery (Ad-Deir), each showcasing the ingenuity and artistry of the Nabatean civilization.
